My philosophy is to always be better today than I was yesterday. I always strive to become a better person. There are setbacks from time to time but for the most part, I believe I’m achieving my goal. I’ve used every single one of the ideas and strategies below to help me on my journey of life.
16 Tips and Strategies to Become a Better Person
Reading is a great way to grow as a person. There are so many free or cheap resources at our fingertips. Blogs are a great place to get knowledge at no cost. EBooks are also a great source of information. If reading on a computer screen isn’t your thing, then the local library or you can buy some books to get more reading in. Personally, I like to read about personal and professional development.

Pick up a New Hobby
Hobbies are another amazing way to grow as a person. Not only are hobbies a great way to pass the time, but you can also learn valuable skills while doing them. Some hobbies can even be turned into an extra source of income. Right now, one of my favorite hobbies is blogging because I feel like I get to help people and share the knowledge I’ve learned throughout the years.

Take a Course
You can take a course online or in person. Either way, they are great for personal and professional development. Which can help you in your journey to become a better person. I prefer taking online courses that I can do at my own pace. These can be done in the comfort of your own home and at whatever time and speed you desire.
One of my favorite places for online courses is Udemy. They offer courses developed by leaders in the industry at a very reasonable price. Some are even free.
Attend a Seminar
A seminar is another great way to branch out and learn something new. Not only do you learn something new at seminars, I always get that extra bit of motivation. It opens my mind to new skills or techniques that I can’t wait to try out.
Face Your Fears
I’m not saying you should go jump off a bridge but now is a great time to get over that fear of public speaking. Better yet, if you have a fear of failure, now might be a great time to try something that you could fail at. You never know if you’re going to fail until you try. Facing our fears can really improve our abilities and broaden our horizons and in the end, something we feared might turn out to be something we really enjoy.
Start an Exercise Routine
There are so many benefits to exercising. Not only do you get healthier and potentially live longer by exercising, but it also is shown to improve cognitive abilities. It is a great way to declutter your mind and relieve some stress. You don’t have to go crazy and go from sitting on the couch to running a marathon over-night, start small and build from there.

Increase Your Productivity
Increasing your productivity will allow you to have more time for growth opportunities. Too often, people say they would love to seek out ways to grow as a person, but they don’t have time. Getting things done efficiently and being more productive should give you enough time to fit some development opportunities into your life.

Perform Some Self-Reflection
Self-reflection is one of the best things you can do to become a better person. Use your time reflecting on what you are strong at and where you could improve. A great time to perform self-reflection is in the evening after the day is over. This way you can reflect on what you did well throughout the day and where you can improve.
Meditation is a great way to clear your mind. Decluttering your head can help you build focus on other tasks. Meditation is also a superb stress reliever. Another benefit of meditation is it allows you time to self-reflect and become more self-aware.

Wake up Early
Waking up early gives you time to actually wake up before you have to start your day. Additionally, if you have kids as I do, the morning is normally the most peaceful time of the day. It is a great time to do some exercise, meditation, or even read some. Waking up early is only beneficial if you go to sleep a little bit earlier. You should still shoot for ideally 7-9 hours of sleep a night to function at your best.
Clean Your House
Cleaning your house may not seem like it has anything to do with personal growth, but it does. Have you ever come home to a dirty house and immediately got a little sad? Having a nice clean space can very beneficial to productivity and motivation. Knocking out your chores is also a great way to get in the habit of getting things done.
Smiling releases endorphins, which improve your mood. Not only does smiling improve your mood but it also makes those around you happier. Not only does it make you happier, but it also makes you more approachable and likable. This very simple step almost automatically makes you a better person.
Avoid Negative People
Negative people have a way of bringing us all down. They sap our energy and drain our motivation. Although we can’t avoid every negative person in the world, we can do our best to not them affect us. There bad attitude toward life doesn’t have to hold us back from being what we are destined to be.
Find a Mentor
Mentors are a great resource for knowledge and experience. The awesome thing is you can have as many mentors as you want. I have multiple mentors that I go to for different kinds of guidance and advice. I have mentors I go to for leadership advice and I have mentors I go to for financial advice. Also, I have mentors I utilize for relationship advice.
When we get comfortable, we stop growing. Look for activities that are just a little outside your comfort zone. Embrace being challenged because that feeling is the feeling of personal growth. Don’t take it easy on yourself. Expect a lot and go out there and get it. Set lofty goals and when you reach them set new ones.
Make Improvement a Habit
Making one small change is great but don’t stop there. Continue to pursue things that will help you become a better person every day. Make it a habit until it becomes the new normal for you. There are way worse habits you could take up than trying to make yourself better every day.

Start small and keep building on your successes every day. Wake up every day intending to be better than you were yesterday.
